A White-Glazed Figure of An Immortal

the hunched figure seated with arms akimbo, the long expressive hands resting on his lap, loosely draped in a flowing robe applied with an icy-blue glaze, the edges of the robe decorated with clusters of leaves, double-gourds tied over his left shoulder, the emaciated body and expressive face unglazed and white, his curled lips open as if in mid-sentence, with bushy eyebrows and finely incised hair. height 8 1/2 in., 21.6 cm. Estimate 6,000—8,000 USD

PROVENANCE: Acquired from a German dealer before 1924.
Brought to the United States circa 1934, by Gertrude Morgenroth, Great Neck, New York.
Thence by descent to Eva Lande.
Thence by descent to the present owner.
