Of ovoid form and painted with a large horizontal band depicting an official seated at a table under a pavilion while four other scholars stand waiting in a bamboo-filled garden, the recessed base displaying a rabbit mark (minor staining, abrasions). 6 1/2in (16.5cm) high -

Provenance: the 'San Diego' Cargo, excavated off the coast of the Philippines in 1991, named after the Spanish galleon attacked and sunk by the by the Dutch ship 'Mauritius' in 1600. The plate bears a paper label from the National Museum of the Philippines numbered '005535.'
