An Apulian red-figure column krater. Circa 350-300 B.C.

The decoration enlivened with added yellow and white, showing a profile head of a Lady of Fashion on both sides, each with her hair dressed in a beribboned kekryphalos with a radiate stephane, curls falling at the ear, wearing a pendant earring and beaded necklace, a band of strokes above, wave pattern on the baseline, palmettes below the handles, the neck decorated with a garland of ivy with berries and floral motifs, the outer rim with a band of wave pattern, the top of the rim with strokes, the top of the handles with palmettes, 16¾in (42.5cm) high. Sold for £7,800

Provenance: Ex Jacques Granges Collection, France. Acquired by the present owner at Christie's Paris, 20 November 2006, lot 334. Accompanied by a French passport.
