A green-glazed carved baluster vase, meiping, Kangxi

The gently waisted body rising to a wide rounded shoulder carved with a wide scale-pattern band, with a border of inverted foliate lappets at the shoulder and foot, applied on either side with two lion-mask handles.  20.6cm (8in) high. Estimate: £3,000 - 5,000 - Unsold.

Provenance: the Jarras Collection, England

A comparable example, but without the lion-mask handles, in the Palace Museum, Beijing is illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum. Monochrome Porcelain, Vol.37, Hong Kong, 1999, p.172.
