A red overlay glass wristrest. Incised Qianlong six-character marks, 19th century

The convex side of the wristrest finely carved through a layer of ruby-red glass to a snowflake ground with scholars passing a bridge, engaged in conversation and with a scholar and his attendant arriving at the gates of a pagoda, all amidst pagodas and pine-strewn mountainous river landscape. 22.5cm (8¾in) long. Estimate: £1,500 - 2,000 - Unsold

Note:  Compare a red overlay glass brushpot incised with a Qianlong four-character mark, sold at Christie's London, 19 June 2001, lot 150; and a red glass overlay bottle vase, incised with a four-character Qianlong mark, sold at Christie's London, 13 November 2001, lot 105.
