Jock Sturges is known for his classical nude photographs of the children of his friends taken in naturist communities in France and Northern California. Sturges uses an extremely large, 8-by-10, and tripod-mounted camera which makes it impossible to hide or move, and requires the subjects to pose. The clarity of Sturges' prints is also due to the large negaitves of this type of camera. Many of Sturges' subjects have, over the years, become so familiar with his process that they are now even able to act as his assistants. All of this is because Sturges subjects are the children of friends or relatives and he has been able to document the changes in his subjects as they mature.
