Indian Ringnecked Parrot, Psittacula krameri

The male Indian Ring-Necked Parrot is easily recognizable by the black band that encircles his throat. Females of the species are almost identical, but they lack this distinctive trait. Although beautiful to look at, these birds can be extremely vocal and emit loud, screeching noises.

Another distinctive feature of the Indian Ring-Necked Parrot is their long, thin tails. Indeed, their tails alone can exceed the length of the rest of their bodies. Most specimens are bright green, but blue, yellow, and purple mutations have also been discovered.

    Blue Fronted Parrot, Amazona aestiva.

Named for the distinctive blue patch above the beak, the Blue-fronted Amazon is one of the most common Amazon parrots kept as a pet or companion. They are ranked the third in ability amongst talking birds, but are best known for their singing which they will gladly perform for strangers. Aside from the crown, these parrots are mostly green and grow to be about 15 inches long. Unlike most regional parrots, their beaks are entirely black. They can be found in the forests, woodlands, and savannas of eastern and northern Bolivia, eastern Brazil, Paraguay, and northern Argentina.

    African Grey Parrot, Psittacus erithacus.

The African Grey Parrot is a remarkable bird. It is widely regarded by experts to be one of the most intelligent animals on earth. Their ability to mimic human speech makes them prized pets. In addition, their long lifespan (up to 70 years) means that they can be fantastic companions.

This quality specimen is exceptional. Incredibly lifelike, it is perched on a branch, its beak open and neck feathers slightly ruffled. Its bright orange tail-feathers are beautifully displayed and offer an astonishing contrast to the rest of its steely plumage

  • The Senegal Parrot is a Poicephalus parrot, and found throughout West Africa. They grow to 23 cm long. They have a relatively large head and beak, and a short broad tail. Adults have a charcoal grey head, grey beak, bright yellow irises, green back and throat, and yellow underparts and rump. The yellow and green areas on a Senegal Parrot's front form a V-shape resembling a yellow vest worn over green. It is a gregarious species, continuously chattering with a range of whistling and squawking calls.
