A superb doucai bottle vase. Mark and period of Yongzheng. photo Sotheby's the elegantly potted ovoid body rising from a recessed base to a tall cylindrical neck with cup-shaped mouth, superbly decorated around the exterior with underglaze blue, green, yellow, aubergine and iron-red enamelled ruyi-head cloud scrolls swirling up and around the body from the base to the rim, base inscribed within double-circles with a six-character reign mark in underglaze blue - 25.5 cm., 10 in. Ming dynasty blue and white porcelains @ Sotheby's Hong Kong

A rare and magnificent blue and white ewer. Ming dynasty, Yongle period. photo Sotheby's based on a Persian metal form, the pear-shaped body painted in vibrant colbalt tones with a continuous leafy lotus scroll, growing around and into a ruyi-head shaped cartouche on the center of each side, all below a tapering neck with a band of pomegranate scroll and a pendent ruyi-head band rising to an everted rim painted with gardenia sprays, set with an elegant curved handle surmounted by an eyelet above three moulded bosses... A blue and white 'boys' box and cover. Mark and period of Wanli the flat cover of rectangular section with lobed corners, painted in vivid cobalt blue with four boys playing musical instruments in a garden setting, bordered around the sides with panels of dragons on a floral ground, the corners each set with a flower, the box similarly decorated with a dragon on each side, the base inscribed with a six-character mark enclosed within a double-square. 13.5 cm., 5 1/4 in.
