A rare blue and white and iron-red moulded 'lotus' dish. Wanli underglaze-blue six-character mark within double circles and of the period (1573-1619). Northern Song dynasty (960-1127). photo Christie's Ltd 2010 Of conical form, with finely potted flaring sides issuing from a narrow foot ring, beautifully carved in the interior with a series of gently curving, radiating spirals forming the flutes of a stylized blossom, the exterior plain, applied with a creamy white glaze of ivory tone darkening slightly to pale olive in the recesses of the carving and stopping short of the metal-bound rim - 5½ in.
