Ruby Glazed Bowl. 清代 Qing Dynasty, 光緒 Guangxu Period (1875-1908) A hemispherical bowl covered entirely in a rich Rose du Barry (deep pink) glaze leaving the rim exposed white. On the white glazed base written in kaishu script is the six character reign mark and period of 光緒 Guangxu in underglaze blue beneath a clear glaze. Height:  2 3/4" (7cm)  Diameter:  6 3/4" (17.1cm). Imperial White Jade Double-Dragon Seal for Sale at Bonhams

The short reign of the Guangxu Emperor was witness to one of the most disruptive periods in the dynasty. LONDON.- The wise words – ‘Love your people as you would your own children’ - on the seal of a Chinese Emperor who ruled a century ago were not enough to save his reign during the Boxer Rebellion around 1900.
