Sixteen hellenistic gold laurel leaf hair ornaments. Ca. 2nd-1st Century BC Mounted in a modern circlet, each devised as three joined leaves. The dried aromatic leaf of the laurel or bay (laurus nobilis) used as a seasoning in cooking to which the Greeks and Romans attributed magical properties. Maximum diam. 8 in.
