Tang Dynasty. photo Bonhams Each of circular shape, the first fitted with a gilt repoussé sheet decorated with an outer band of birds and grapevines under a central band of leaping hounds and vines, plain pierced boss, the second cast with an outer grapevine and bird meander under a central band of leaping mythical beasts enclosed by a raised band with sawtooth edge, both with heavy malachite patina; 4 and 4 3/4in (10 and 12cm) diameter. Historic Mirrors from the Setting of Brideshead Revisited to Sell at Bonhams

A rare and important pair of George II carved giltwood mirrors LONDON.- Two important George II carved giltwood mirrors, part of a set of four commissioned for Castle Howard in Yorkshire, the stately home featured in the 1981 TV series and the 2008 film adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s novel Brideshead Revisited, are to be sold at Bonhams’ Fine English Furniture and Works of Art sale on 3 November 2010.
