Record pour une vente composée d’Arts d’Asie à Paris

Rare Figural Sancai Glazed Rhyton, China, Tang Dynasty (618-907) Glazed Earthenware. Height: 4 7/8 inches - Sold The drinking cup of trumpet-form is crisply molded and finely hand-finished. The handle, formed of a leafy stem, issues a stippled Buddha’s hand citron upon which is straddled a high-capped Central Asian figure with a large wine jar in his arms. A Greek private collection of fine jade carvings @ Bonhams

The collection was formed during the 1950s and 60s by a Greek lady in the privileged environment of a well known Athenian family, who similarly to other prominent Greek families of the period, participated in international shipping as well as being pioneers of the Greek textile industry.
