Note: Gerhard Richter's blurred photographs and paintings are his signature trademark, developed in the 1960s, after he had fled East Germany. Richter uses the blur technique in his landscape photograph "Ravine" to demonstrate the fleeting nature of time. The artist acknowledges that although the photograph captures a single moment in time, that moment is gone forever.
