A Huanghuali Waisted Corner-Leg Side Table, Banzhuo, 18th/19th Century

The two-panel top set within the rectangular frame, supported on a narrow, plain waist above a shaped, beaded apron carved with opposed stylized kui dragons around a pearl at the center and kui dragons at either end, the narrow sides with two kui dragons confronted around a highly stylized floral element, the beaded legs of square section terminating in hoof feet. 34 5/8 in. (87.9 cm.) high, 45 15/16 in. (109.1 cm.) wide, 22 1/8 in. (56.2 cm.) deep. Estimate $25,000 - $35,000

Notes: See two similar tables in huanghuali, also carved with chi dragons, although with humpback stretchers beneath the shaped aprons, illustrated by C. Evarts, Liang Yi Collection: Huanghuali, Hong Kong, 2007, p. 121, no. 44, where it is dated to the 18th century, and G.W. Bruce, Living with Ming - the Lu Ming Shi Collection, Hong Kong, 2000, p. 113, no. 24, where it is dated to the 16th-17th century.
