A Sultanabad Pottery Bowl, North Iran, 14th Century

Of rounded form rising from short vertical foot, the centre of the bowl with a roundel containing a depiction of a prancing deer against a background of dense floral foliage on cobalt-blue ground, around this a border of four radiating panels each with similar foliage around a central drop-shaped panel alternated with thinner bands of small cobalt roundels on white ground and turquoise floral sprays on cobalt ground, repaired breaks. 8 3/8in. (21.3cm.) diam. Estimate £10,000 - £15,000
