A rare grisaille and gilt 'European subject' punch bowl. Mid Qianlong Finely painted on both sides with a shaped cartouche enclosing a knight slaying a horse and its rider on a beach, with a fort, ships and observant figures in the background, with smaller cartouches enclosing European landscape scenes, all above a bamboo border at the foot, the interior painted with a central floral spray and a bird and flower border at the rim. 23.2cm (9in) diam. Kangxi Enamelled around the exterior with two hexafoil cartouches enclosing narcissus and peony sprays, alternating fan-shaped cartouches with further floral sprays, the interior with the 'hundred antiques' motif laid out on a leaf-shaped ground (hairline crack). 29½cm (11¾in) diameter.
