A Massive Hongmu and Hardwood Cabinet, Gui, 19th Century
Of massive proportions, with two doors fitted flush around a removeable center stile and deeply carved with two ascending dragons admidst clouds above rockwork and crashing waves, the doors opening to reveal the shelved interior, the cabinet surmounted by a separate faceted superstructure carved on the front and sides with scrolling clouds, all above an apron carved with two dragons confronted on a pearl on the front and scrolling clouds on the narrow sides. 87 in. (221 cm.) high, 51½ in. (130.8 cm.) wide, 19 7/8 in. (50.5 cm.) deep. Estimate $25,000 - $35,000
